My background and passion for photography
Having spent all of my working life in the midst of numbers, I would often get out to the countryside for much needed R&R. During these hikes I would find vista's and do the typical thing of reaching for my phone to take a picture. Whilst they're pretty good for what they are, when looking back at an album I'd often feel that the pictures didn't quite match the visuals in my memory. So I bought myself my first DSLR, a humble Canon 450D. Despite it being fairly basic, the multitude of buttons and dials blew my mind! Thankfully the Internet was there to help me decipher what was initially a package of confusion.
I don't want to believe. I want to know ― Carl Sagan
My lifelong passion of looking up at the stars in the night sky soon saw me looking into how I could capture it for an image, my already steep learning suddenly got exponentially steeper! I quickly realised that my current equipment wasn't really fit for purpose so after much research a Canon 6D, with a multitude of additional lenses were purchased. This combined with the wonders of Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and image stacking, saw a dramatic improvement in the quality of the images I was able to produce. Although I've come to the conclusion that to reach the level of some of the astrophotography pictures out there, I'd need to invest a lot more. For now I'll continue to learn how best to shoot terra firma, and enjoy capturing some of the wonders that this world has to offer.
